Tomb Raider is an upcoming 2018 American action-adventure film directed by Roar Uthaug and written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Alastair Siddons. It is based on the 2013 video game of the same name by Crystal Dynamics, and will be a reboot of the Tomb Raider film series. The film tells about the first expedition of Lara Croft, in which she goes to complete her father's research and uncover ancient secrets capable of clearing her name. The film stars Alicia Vikander, Dominic West, Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, Nick Frost and Kristin Scott Thomas.
Principal photography took place from January to June 2017 at the Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden in the UK and Cape Town, South Africa. The film is scheduled to be released in the United States in 3D and IMAX by Warner Bros. Pictures on March 16, 2018.

Production[edit]
GK films first aquired the rights to the film in 2011. [9] Norwegian director Roar Uthaug came on board in November 2015[10] Alicia Vikander was announced to be the new Lara Croft in April 2016. [3] Deadline had previous reported that Daisy Ridley was at one point, considered for the role, though she later claimed in a video that it was just a "crazy rumor". [11] Walton Goggins was announced to play the villain in December 2016. [5][12][13] Much of the rest of the cast was revealed in early 2017. [6] [14] [15]
Filming[edit]
Principal photography on the film began on January 23, 2017 in Cape Town, South Africa and ended on June 9, 2017 at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden.[16][17][18][19]
Release[edit]
Tomb Raider is scheduled to be released on March 16, 2018, by Warner Bros. Pictures.[20] The film will get an IMAX 3D and a RealD 3D release.[21]
Future[edit]
Producer Adrian Askarieh told IGN in an interview that he may oversee a film universe with Just Cause, Hitman, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, and Thief.[22]
